Preparing Teenagers for Real-World Emergencies

Preparing Teenagers for Real-World Emergencies: A Unique Safety & Disaster Awareness Camp in Bengaluru

In a world where emergencies can arise without warning, preparing young people with practical safety knowledge has become more important than ever. Whether it is a fire accident, a road emergency, an animal encounter, a cyber threat, or a natural disaster, awareness and quick thinking can make a significant difference.

With this vision, I am happy to announce the upcoming Teenagers Safety, Emergency and Disaster Awareness Camp being organized through Karnataka Civil Defence Corps Division 17. Being the Division Warden and Officer Commanding I am happy to have the support of aome of the finest volunteets in our community.  And with their support we are able to undertake this .

This one-day experiential camp is specially designed for teenagers between 12 and 18 years of age and aims to introduce them to essential life skills that are rarely taught in traditional classrooms.

What makes this programme unique is its practical and interactive approach. Instead of only theoretical sessions, participants will experience demonstrations, hands-on activities, awareness exercises, and mock drill exposure designed to help them understand emergencies in a realistic and engaging manner.

The programme brings together experts from different fields who will share practical knowledge from real-world experience.

  1. The expert sessions include: 6 SessionsYouth Disaster , Emergency and safety Awareness event
  • Disaster Management & First AidSunand Sampath
  • Fire SafetyB A Satyanarayana
  • Cyber SafetyDr Girisha Shankar, PhD
  • Snakes & Animal SafetyKrish Mohan
  • Traffic SafetyFeroz Khan

The camp has been carefully designed to expose participants to multiple dimensions of safety and emergency preparedness. Along with technical knowledge, the activities are also intended to build confidence, situational awareness, teamwork, communication, and responsible decision-making.

Young people today are constantly exposed to information online, but very few get the opportunity to learn how to respond calmly and effectively during real emergencies. This programme attempts to bridge that gap through experiential learning methods that encourage active participation and practical understanding.

Some of the key takeaways from the camp include:

  • Essential life skills from field experts
  • Introduction to emergency and disaster management systems
  • Self-awareness and safety consciousness
  • Participation certificate
  • Exposure to real-world emergency response concepts

The programme will be conducted on 23rd May 2026 (Saturday) at R T Nagar Public School, Bengaluru, from 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Participation is free for students, although voluntary contributions towards event expenses are welcome. Since the programme is designed to remain interactive and effective, participation is limited and pre-registration is mandatory.

Over the years, I have strongly believed that preparedness should begin early. When teenagers are trained to think responsibly, stay calm under pressure, and help others during emergencies, we are not just training individuals — we are building safer communities for the future.

I look forward to welcoming enthusiastic young participants to this meaningful learning experience.
